Washington State University's Board of Regents successfully concluded a national search for an exceptional leader to serve as WSU's 10th president when it appointed Elson S. Floyd by unanimous vote on December 13. Dr. Floyd is currently president of the four-campus University of Missouri.
President V. Lane Rawlins, who has led WSU since 2000, earlier announced his decision to retire in June 2007.

The Board appointed a 20-member Search Advisory Committee headed by Regent Rafael Stone to guide the search. Members include regents, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. Kenneth Alhadeff, Chair of the Board, has served ex officio.
"There is no more important task for the Board of Regents than the selection of a president. Clearly, the selection of President Rawlins set the stage for dramatic progress by WSU. We plan to be every bit as successful in picking our next leader," Regent Stone said when the committee was appointed in the early fall.
